Things to do in Bristol as a student

If you’ve recently been offered a university place at one of Bristol’s esteemed universities, then congrats! Before accepting your offer there’s of lot of things about the city that you will need to consider to make sure that it is the right choice for you. 

 

Aside from researching possible student accommodation in Bristol, you’re also going to want to know that there are plenty of things to do when you need some down time from studying. Here is a list of some of the great things that the city of Bristol has to offer:

 

Street Art

 

The city of Bristol is renowned for its street art, in fact you wont be able to miss it when you are wandering around getting to know the place. There are a number of guided street art tours that you can join to fully immerse yourself in the culture, you’ll see murals from Upfest and even Banksy pieces. 

 

Museums 

 

Aside from street art, Bristol is also full of interesting museums to visit if you fancy something else a bit educational and insightful. There is a range of museums showcasing all sorts of history and exhibits from archaeology, natural history, science and aerospace. The great thing about museums is that they are usually free entry meaning that you can save some of your student budget. 

 

Gigs and concerts 

 

The music scene in Bristol is booming, with live music filling up the calendar every week there is a type of event for every type and taste of music. You have the option to go big at the 02 Academy where big names play regularly or if you fancy something a little more understated, there are a number of pubs and small venues showcasing the local talent and even open mic nights if you prefer to be on the stage.

 

Shopping 

 

For when you need some retail therapy as an escape from university assignments, Bristol has plenty to offer. If you’re looking for highstreet heaven then Cabot Circus or Cribbs Causeway have what you need, with an endless amount of shops you can easily spend a full day and not visit all of them. If vintage is more your thing, visiting Gloucester Road and Park Street are best for second hand shopping sprees. 

 

Festivals 

 

Bristol’s festival calendar is chockablock throughout the year with a huge range of events for all interests. From the International Balloon Festival which is Europe’s largest hot air balloon event, to St Pauls Carnival and Love Saves The Day there are a whole host of reasons to venture out of your student accommodation in Bristol. 

 

Deciding on a location to live out your student years can seem like a daunting task, not only have you got to check the accommodation is right but you also need to look at the location as a whole. Luckily, Bristol has lots to offer in terms of student apartments and also fun things to do during your spare time making it a great contender.
